Callouses are an excessive layer of dead skin cells in the horny layer of skin, or Outer layer of skin if you like.

Callous has a dual role.  On the one hand they are our body's way of providing a protective and insulating layer between the ground and deeper, more sensitive structures of our feet.  On the other hand, they can become painful and cause discomfort in their own right.

Podiatrists reduce the Callous which ensures that the sufferer can walk more comfortably. This procedure is painless.  Further treatment in the form of arch supports (orthotics) and/or padding and strapping may also be required.
