Flat Feet

"Flat Feet" is a general term used to describe the rolling in of the long arch of the foot. It may also be termed Pes Planus, Pes Valgus or excessive pronation. As the foot hits the ground ,one of the functions  of the foot is to absorb shock and it does this by rolling inward. This motion is called pronation. If there is too much pronation this leads to the foot flattening out.

It is a common condition that affects all ages, and is a result of a variety of causes. For example, it may be hereditary, acquired, traumatic or spastic.

Treatment mainly consists of issuing arch supports or " orthotics " as they are now called. The arch supports realign, support and improve the function of the foot.  More and more people are now realising the value of orthotics as they often provide for a better quality of life through increased mobility.
