Tinea (also known as athletes' foot) has its origins in various fungi that, when grouped together, cause itching, peeling, inflammation and cracking between the toes.

Tinea commonly appears between the toes.  If your feet are restricted to dark, moist surroundings over a long period, the fungus can also spread to the top or bottom of the foot at the base of the toes. The infection can cause considerable pain and discomfort.

Tinea can also affect the toenail and, within a few months, a small whitish area is often seen at the front edge or corners of the nail. In time the nail thickens and may also turn yellow.

Treatment involves removing as much of the infection as possible, this can be done with the aid of an electric drill which grinds the nail infection way (a painless procedure I might add), this is then followed up by  applying anti-fungal cream 2 to 3 times a day.
